President, Erie Management Group, LLC

Mr. Black founded Erie Management Group, LLC (EMG) in 2004 to invest, create and manage companies with innovative products capitalizing on economic opportunities in the Lake Erie Region.  It is Mr. Black’s visionary leadership that has helped to create companies such as Kold-Draft Industries, LLC (KDI),  Lake Erie Biofuels, LLC dba HERO BX and Calypso Enterprises, LLC.  KDI produces a patented long-lasting ice cube that is more pure than Mother Nature.  HERO is an accredited BQ9000 Biodiesel fuels Producer and Marketer with a production capacity of 45 million gallons per year at its flagship location in Erie, Pennsylvania.  In 2015, HERO acquired a second biodiesel production facility in Moundville, Alabama, has since acquired facilities in South Roxana, Illinois and Clinton, Iowa, as well as a tolling arrangement in Washington, Iowa, and blending/distribution in North Hampton, New Hampshire.  HERO BX is now the largest producer east of the Mississippi.  Calypso Enterprises is one of the coveted 25 Pennsylvania licensed medical marijuana grower/processor facilities and became operational in June 2019.  Calypso has since taken the PA medical marijuana market by storm, grabbing market share in late 2019 from a number of large multi-state operators through a focus on high quality, consistently available products.

Mr. Black is a graduate of Penn State University and a business owner of more than 35 years who believes in innovation, information and impact.  Mr. Black is President and Treasurer of Samuel P. Black & Associates, Inc., a property and casualty insurance agency.  He is also Co-Founder and President of The Black Family Foundation which is dedicated to being an active grantmaker, partner in philanthropy, catalyst, key convener, and civic leader engaged in strategic investments devoted to rebuilding and sustaining a vital, prosperous, city and region.

Since 2013, Mr. Black has maintained a second residence in Colorado Springs, CO.

Regardless of the location, Mr. Black brings forth the same focus of revitalizing once-vibrant industrial manufacturing centers of the US with public, private and philanthropic investment in education, training, innovation and environmentally sustainable technologies.

Other regional initiatives include the Blackstone Ranch Institute in Taos, NM which provides carefully targeted amounts of seed money to strategic dialogues that are necessary to catalyze important social innovation across a range of environmental fronts of which he is the Founder and President.
